TEACHER: Lisa Cato
After 19 years as a Chemical Engineer, Lisa left the work force in 2010 to homeschool her three girls. She is still homeschooling her third daughter in 7th grade. She remains active in her Classical Conversations community in Simpsonville. Lisa also works as an assistant/bookkeeper for a local architect, enjoys gardening and reading in her free time, and pulls for her Clemson Tigers with her husband and her oldest daughter who's a junior at Clemson. She is coming to terms with pulling for the Carolina Gamecocks next year with her middle daughter who is starting there in the fall.
ALGEBRA 1
Assist students in understanding more complex arithmetic calculations, measurements, basic geometry, and other algebraic foundational concepts and skills. Expand on the pre-algebra concepts covered in previous math curriculums and prepare students for upper-level mathematics.
Covers signed numbers, exponents, solving equations, two equations with unknowns, graphing equations, scientific notation, ratio, percent, variation, unit conversions, geometry, perimeter, area, volume, English to metric conversion, surface area. Chapters assigned for at-home completion
In class: Concepts from multiple lessons taught, practice and problem set problems worked and questions answered. Tests administered at home and reviewed in class.
Textbook: Saxon Math Homeschool 8/7 3rd ed. text, solutions manual, test forms, Homeschool Packet (contains answers to tests); Scientific calculator

CHEMISTRY
Provide student with a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general chemistry. Conduct lab experiments that expand on the chemistry concepts. Covers foundations in chemistry from a creationist viewpoint.
Chapters assigned for at-home reading and completion of "On Your Own" problems
