CREATIVE WRITING / LITERATURE

LITERATURE (High-school)

Throughout this course your child will learn to love literature! We will learn to cherish classic literary work and understand why it is still so valued and appreciated. Join us as we unravel a book study of the beloved classic  Little Men by Luisa May Alcott.

Through this study we will focus on the themes messages, literary value, and the beloved characters in this book as well as others written by Luisa May Alcott. We will also go over a  biography of the author and challenging vocabulary words from the book.

This class will  teach your student how to write a response paper and a book report by having the student read and analyze sample response papers to Little Men and then guiding the student through the steps of writing a response paper at the end of the Book Study.

Homework: Each week your child will have writing and reading assignments. Some of these assignments will be completed in this class and some will be work to take home and complete throughout the week. There will be two papers due that will take up a larger portion of your child’s grade throughout this class.

MATERIAL NEEDED:

Little Men (book): It is helpful if each child has this exact copy throughout this course. This will help us with reading and referencing so that we all have the exact page numbers.    https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/cart/ (https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/cart/)

Paper, Pens, Highlighters (three colors): It is helpful if your child has pens, preferably a college ruled notebook and 3 different colored highlighters to complete the small assignments throughout this class.

This is a 12 weeks course and will count for 0.5 high-school credit.
