Shawn has spent many years teaching and inspiring others of all ages to enjoy creating artwork. It is a joy to watch each person’s unique style flourish as they gain confidence in using their abilities to share their art with others.
ART FOR LITTLES - CREATIVE EXPLORERS
Target Levels: Pre-Kindergarten –3rd; 4 - 8 years old
Children will have lots of fun exploring creativity and the process of art.
This 45-minute process-based art class will encourage young children to explore their creativity, develop fine motor skills, and learn new techniques using a variety of art materials. The focus is on the experience of creating, rather than the final product.
Students will have fun building art skills using cutting, gluing, drawing and coloring to create layered paper projects. (Process art is a creative way to explore new art supplies without the pressure to create a masterpiece. There will be examples of goals and projects to complete but some younger students will simply enjoy the process of creating. The skills learned in this class build essential hand-eye coordination as well as confidence to continue exploring new ideas as they develop skills.
Some weeks might get messy so please dress for mess. This course features new projects each semester. Students are welcome to join our art fun as many semesters as their schedule allows.
Projects for this class may include (but are not limited to) creating artwork using the following mediums: many types of paper, simple 3D sculpture, oil pastels, markers, chalk, watercolor and tempera paint.

MIXED MEDIA ART: EXPLORING CREATIVITY
Target Levels: 4th - 12th ; 8 - 18 years old
Mixed Media Art Class for exploring creativity using a variety of materials and techniques.
In this engaging and hands-on class, students will dive into the exciting world of mixed media art, exploring a wide variety of materials and techniques. Designed for creative minds eager to try new things, this class encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and experiment with traditional and non-traditional mediums. Students will have the opportunity to blend various materials into unique, imaginative works of art.
Throughout the course, students ages 9 and up will:
•Develop a deeper understanding of artistic techniques and principles, such as texture, composition, and layering.
•Experiment with different materials like acrylics, watercolors, paper, oil pastels, wire, and more, discovering how they can work together to create something extraordinary.
•Engage in creative challenges that inspire self-expression and problem-solving.
•Build confidence in their ability to create art that reflects their own voice and perspective.
This class is perfect for those who love to explore new ideas and aren’t afraid to make a mess along the way. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, you'll leave with colorful, experimental projects and a deeper love for artistic exploration.
Supplies are included for this class.
Prerequisite: Students must be able to participate for an hour long class and be responsible with sharp tools for printmaking.
This mixed media class is one semester. Drawing class will be offered second semester.
