Learn to Draw Everything is a foundational drawing course that teaches students to break down complex forms into simple shapes, lines, and tones to draw anything with confidence.
Learn to Draw Everything is a hands-on, skill-building course designed to teach students the core principles of observational drawing. Using a step-by-step approach, students will learn how to break down complex objects into basic shapes, develop confident line work, and apply tone to create depth and form. Through live demonstrations, guided practice, and weekly assignments, students will build a visual toolkit that empowers them to draw anything they see — from everyday objects to imagined characters. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to strengthen your fundamentals, this course provides the essential techniques and mindset to draw with clarity and purpose.
Target Level: 10th - 12th Grade
Instructor: Matt Tolbert
Matt is a trained illustrator and educator with a BA in Art Education from Anderson University and MFA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University. He has over 15 years of experience teaching drawing and visual design at both the high school and university levels, with a focus on foundational technique, visual storytelling, and skill-building through structured practice.
Matt currently works full-time in UX/UI and product strategy, designing software for the United States Air Force. In addition to his work in software and technology, he serves as a deacon at New Covenant Christian Fellowship in Greenville, SC, where he also teaches and preaches regularly.
A lifelong resident of Greenville, Matt is married with three kids and continues to find time to draw and paint—keeping his love for the visual arts alive through both personal practice and teaching.
