BIOLOGY
Summary:
This high school biology course is designed to be your high school student’s first science course. As a college-prep high school biology course, this class will prepare them for college-level courses and give them an understanding of the basic biological world that surrounds them each day of their lives. Providing a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology, this course covers the vocabulary of biology so that students are properly prepared to have scientific discussions, strong background in the scientific method so that students are trained for laboratory sciences in other high school science courses, as well as university studies. The course includes labs that cover experimentation, field studies, microscopy, and dissection. Most of these labs will be in class, but a few may be sent home. This course covers an introduction to classification, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, and the distinctive biological characteristics of large classes of organisms. The textbook is the only required material. Testing will be provided.

Teacher: Allie Hoffmeister
Allie is a high school science teacher who was homeschooled her whole childhood and who has a passion for teaching in homeschool environments. She has a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and now teaches at Crestview and Velos homeschool co-ops. Allie's mission in the classroom is to facilitate worship of the Creator by helping students to develop an understanding and awe for the world He has made. In addition to learning and teaching, Allie enjoys gardening and making amazing coffee at a local coffee shop.
