FILMMAKING 101 - spring ONLY

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS: JASON & TARA MASSEY

Jason and Tara homeschool their 2 children who've gotten to experience life on a movie set multiple times. They've seen the impact it has made on their kids' lives and look forward to sharing that experience with other students. They believe putting the gifts, talents, and skills of individuals into a collective experience is glorifying to God and allows us to glimpse the grand purpose He has for our lives. 

FILMMAKING 101 

Target Levels:  Ages 14 - 19

Videography and filmmaking is essentially the art of story telling in the most common form of mass communication today. The platform can be effective in working for the glory of God and pursuing excellence with the talents and abilities He has given us. Learn how to strengthen your creativity and talents starting with storyboarding, learning gear, techniques, and all that goes into filmmaking. With the class, become a filmmaker and create a short film to show to your family.

Week 1: The Power, Influence, and Art of Storytelling (an overview) Begin Storyboards 

Week 2: Storyboard Presentations, Overview of Gear and Roles on a Film Set 

Week 3: Lights - It's "LIGHTS, Camera, Action" for a reason 

Week 4: Camera settings and techniques (How to get the shot) 

Week 6: It's All About The Audio (overview of gear and process of recording for a film) 

Week 7: Begin Short Film Production: the students will participate as directors, camera operators, gaffers [lighting], audio technician's, producers, and actors)

 Week 8: Short Film Production 

Week 9: CUT! Excellent Editing 

Week 10: Post Production Process 

Week 11: Final touches on Short Film 

Week 12: Short Film Premier and Celebration. 

Two days with extended class hours may be used for filming at locations off Velos Campus. Once class starts and students put together the script, we will be in communication with parents about where and work with schedules to choose the best days and times.
