REGISTRATION FOR THE 26/27 WILL OPEN MARCH 30, 2026!
KATIE MENKING
Katie is a piano teacher who has been playing the piano since she was six years old. She completed a B.S. in Music with a certificate in Piano Pedagogy and loves to teach and collaborate with other musicians.
She loves teaching students of all ages and watching them learn to enjoy and share the music they work on. This is accomplished by learning music that is both motivating and attainable, while learning essential skills like ear training, improvisation, and technique. Each lesson is planned with the individual student in mind and focused on working together and enjoying the process.
PIANO LESSONS
Target Levels: Ages 7 - 18
12 Weeks
This class is a 30 minute private lessons each week
The lessons are for beginners through advanced students.
Once students are registered, the teacher will reach out set the time for your lesson.
The teacher will determine the level of piano method book needed after the first lesson, or two, and the parent will be responsible for purchasing the book recommended (cost ranges $10 - $15).
In the piano lessons we will learn key concepts the we will apply to music that is both motivating and attainable. Each lesson is tailored to the individual students’ needs in a caring and engaging atmosphere. We attain musical excellence by not rushing progress, but by taking our time to ensure that learning is complete. We strive for commitment and consistency both in lessons and practice time.
One recital per semester. Date and details TBD.

MUSIC APPRECIATION
Target Levels: Ages 13 - 18
12 Weeks
In this course, students will take an in-depth look at why music is important, how music has developed, and how to listen to music.
Students will be introduced to music through teaching and hands-on projects. They will develop a deeper understanding of musical styles, composers, and instruments. They will complete projects that introduce them to new music and help them interact with what they hear.

Listening Journals
Musical Timeline Project
Musical Piece Diagram Project
Program Notes Project
Potential extra thing would be attending a musical performance together. We could do this at one of the free events at Bob Jones University with the Symphony Orchestra or the Wind Band there.
All of these topics and assignments are subject to adjustments as I continue to structure this course.
