Meet the Instructor: Kim Guilliams
Kim Guilliams has been captivated by creative endeavors all her life. She sings, plays piano, crochets, cross stitches, cooks, and dabbles in writing, drawing, painting, photography, dip pens, and musical composition. As the homeschooled daughter of a music minister father and pianist mother, Kim has embraced music ever since she began piano lessons and sang her first solo at the age of six. Although she chose English for her B.A. and an M.A. in Theological Studies, she continued to pursue music through private lessons and music opportunities at various churches. At Velos, Kim has been the piano accompanist and a substitute teacher for the Velos Voices choir for three years. Today Kim and her family attend Emmanuel Upstate Presbyterian Church where Kim serves as the music ministry leader, pianist, and choral composer and director.
Sacred Chorale introduces older kids and teens to the rich tradition of sacred music.
Each student will learn or hone their music-reading skills, develop classical sacred vocal techniques, learn part-singing, and become familiar with the broad range of styles of sacred music over the ages, from Late Medieval chants to modern Christian choral composers.
There may be optional opportunities for solos, duets, or trios.
The semester will culminate in a concert the second week of April (date TBD). The ultimate goal of this class is to teach each student how to skillfully praise the Lord in song.
