SPANISH - TUESDAY
You will choose either Tuesday or Thursday but not both as they as they are two separate courses.
SPANISH 1
We will focus on good pronunciation and survival skills, while learning grammar and vocabulary.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites other than a desire to learn the second most spoken language in the United States and natively spoken in the world.
This class is for high school students, as well as mature middle school students who would like to take advantage of learning Spanish at a younger age, which makes language acquisition easier and/or gets a high school language credit under their belt.
Target Levels: 7th - 12th Grades
High School Credits: 1 Credit.
Teacher: Anna Gonzalez
Anna grew up in the Hispanic culture since childhood. At age 13, she began living abroad each summer, traveling to countries such as Honduras, Venezuela, and Nicaragua working in feeding programs and orphanages. She lived in Mexico for almost four years, where her oldest daughter was born. She earned a bachelor's degree from USC-Upstate in languages with a focus in Spanish and minor in Psychology. She also is certified to interpret in the medical field.
She has a passion to connect cultures and bring out the beauty in each. Since graduating from college, she has worked as an interpreter in the hospital, translator for several private companies, bilingual banker, and Spanish teacher/ESOL tutor.
She and her husband, Andres, have 9 children together, and have been homeschooling them since 2010 when their oldest daughter turned 5. They all enjoy life together with music and dance, a golden retriever/hound, cat, and lots of chickens. She is excited to teach Spanish to fellow members in the homeschool community.

This course is a great way to learn the basics of the Spanish language in a fun, student geared environment. No experience required!
Prerequisites: This course does not have any prerequisites, although having studied Latin is quite helpful (but not necessary).
Target Levels: 7th - 12th Grades
High School Credits: 1 Credit
This course is designed to help students learn to:
1) Communicate with other people in Spanish;
2) Understand and appreciate cultural practices, procedures and products of the target culture(s);
3) Make connections with other disciplines through the study of Spanish;
4) Compare their native culture and language with the target culture(s) and language;
5) Continue using Spanish outside of the classroom.

SPANISH II - THURSDAY
Welcome back to Spanish! You already know the basics from Spanish 1 so you are ready to keep using the language in a fun learning environment. The emphasis of this class will be for the students to become more comfortable using the language while learning more vocabulary and conjugations.
We will use Spanish 2 for Christian Schools, 2nd Edition, BJU Press. It is not necessary to buy the student activities book or test materials.
Prerequisites: Completion of Spanish I. Also, having studied Latin is quite helpful (but not necessary).
Target Levels: 8th - 12th Grades
High School Credits: 1 Credit
This course is designed to help students learn to:
1) Communicate with other people in Spanish;
2) Understand and appreciate cultural practices, procedures and products of the target culture(s);

This course is only for students who have completed both Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. We will focus on learning more vocabulary and conjugations so that the students feel comfortable starting and maintaining conversations in Spanish.
We will use Spanish 3 for Christian Schools, BJU Press. Student Activities Manual. It is not necessary to buy the test materials.
Prerequisites: Completion of Spanish I & II. Also, having studied Latin is quite helpful (but not necessary).

Teacher: Michelle Huddle
Michelle has taught Spanish since 1995 in the public, private and homeschool community schools. She has taught Spanish 1 through Spanish 5, as well as Kindergarten through 5th grade. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, with a minor in Secondary Education, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
