Sewing is a skill that can serve you for a lifetime! This course is designed to teach beginner machine sewing skills as students create fun, practical items. Sewing teaches patience, precision, how to follow directions, and results in creative projects to enjoy or gift to others!
BEGINNER
Come learn to sew or continue sewing with a *BRAND NEW* class focusing on “OLD MATERIALS” in Upcycled Sewing Projects!
Course Outline: In this 5-week session, students will learn the part of the sewing machine, how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, and troubleshoot problems that come up in sewing. Each week we will sew a project that will improve student's basic sewing skills and show how to turn old material into something new! We will transform a button down shirt into a special keepsake pillow, turn old jeans into a fun bag, upcycle denim into a little basket, and sew vintage bedsheets into pretty bunting for a bedroom or party decoration!
Projects are simple for new sewists and there will be ways to make some of the projects more challenging for those who have taken lessons before!
Class limit: 8 students
Ages 8 + up (target 3rd - 10th grade)
(All supplies included...although students are invited to bring one of Dad's or Grandpa's old button down shirts for the pillow, and they can bring old jeans if they have some to upcycle!)
